How to use NG-Trace with the Modbus driver

Valid for Modbus 2.8 library minimum version 2.8.075 with licence code minimum 5550, NG-Trace FBox library min. version 2.7.616 and NG-Trace 2 version 2.3.030.
(former versions support only the ‘basic’ Modbus trace and only Modbus/TCP Master)

There are 2 versions of the Modbus 2 Trace buffer.
1. The ‘basic’ trace which shows only the parameters of each requests and errors.
The keyword for the Trace Buffer Fbox is ‘Modbus’.
2. The ‘Raw Data’ trace which shows all bytes of each Modbus requests and responses.
The keyword of the Trace Buffer Fbox is ‘ModbusRaw’.

We assume that you have correctly installed NG-Trace and the NG-Trace FBox library according to the instructions on the NG-Trace Download page, and that you have a Fupla application ready with one or more Master Fbox driver already built without error.

  1. Open the Fupla file with the Modbus Master link xx Fbox. Above this Fbox place the Fbox “NGT Modbus” from the NG-Trace family.
  2. In the “Adjust Window” of this Fbox set a buffer for “Modbus telegrams” and if needed “Modbus raw data”.
  3. In the Device folder, create a new file with the type ‘NG-Trace 2 Settings’ (Uncheck the option “Linked/Build”).
  4. The NG-Trace tool will open, when prompted, select “Standard buffer”, check “Use buffer symbol” and select “s.ngtr.buffer.Modbus”.
  5. Build, load and run your program as usual in the PG5 Project Manager.
  6. Double click on the NG-Trace file to open NG-Trace software, and click “Connect”,
  7. The trace will then start to display, you can export your trace in an Excel file.
